Habitus launched in September 2008 to a passionate and widespread audience of design hunters. The intelligent content covering products, personalities, homes and landscapes throughout Australia, New Zealand and South-East Asia has been applauded as the first of its kind.

The unique editorial and design approach – urging readers to go beyond the surface elements of design and architecture – has proved an irresistible combination to the design hunter audience, inspiring a dedicated following from the first issue.

Habitus is the first publication to take this regional approach, exploring the various ways of living across the region and celebrating the diverse values, culture, environments and social structures that are embedded in everything that surrounds us – the homes people live in, their furniture, artwork and landscapes.

With ongoing feedback and development in place for the magazine, the Habitus journey will now continue online, with the imminent launch of habitusliving.com. This evolution will be the first online portal for design hunters, a web-based community for the exchange of design ideas and products, an ongoing conversation about people, spaces and destinations in design.

The birthday event brought the content of the magazine to life, and took place at the Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation, the not-for-profit organisation founded by Dr. Gene and Brian Sherman, who are featured in Issue 05. The illustration on the personal invitations were hand-drawn by Melbourne-based illustrator, Megan Hess, also featured in the birthday issue.

The birthday event was celebrated with design hunter brand partners, including Vietnamese delicacies prepared live on Electrolux barbecues, Swedish textile, fashion and homewares brand Funkis, Veuve Clicquot, Tempus Two and Monteith’s.

Special guests included:
• Liane Rossler & Sam Marshall – Dinosaur Designs
• Brian & Gene Sherman
• Tina Engelen - (designer)
• Michael Alvisse and Marc Schamburg – Schamburg & Alvisse
• Brian Parkes – Object Gallery
• Darren Palmer – Darren Palmer interiors (Home Made)
• Charles Wilson - (designer)
• Ursula Hufnagl – chic model management

The birthday event also marked the launch of a series of quarterly content-based activities for readers, aiming to engage and further connect the design hunter audience with Habitus magazine.
